Using Bypass Mode on the Dejavoo Terminal

How to enable Bypass mode on your Dejavoo terminal so you can keep taking card payments when the POS can't start a transaction, and how to record those sales afterward.

Overview

Bypass mode lets you take a card payment directly on the Dejavoo terminal, without the Material POS app starting the transaction.

Only use Bypass mode if you are getting connection errors and cannot start a payment from the POS app. This usually means one of the following:

  • The Material POS app is not working or is unavailable.
  • The Dejavoo SPIn API is down, but the terminal can still process cards and your internet connection is working.
⚠️

Transactions run in Bypass mode are processed independently and are not recorded in the POS. They will not appear in your POS reporting until you enter them manually (see Step 3).

Step 1: Enable Bypass mode

There are two ways to turn on Bypass mode, depending on how your terminal is set up.

Option A: Tap the Bypass button

  1. On the terminal screen, tap the Bypass button in the top-right corner.
  1. The terminal switches to Bypass mode.

Option B: Restricted Bypass mode is enabled

If tapping the Bypass button does nothing, Restricted Bypass mode is turned on and the terminal needs a PIN first.

  1. Tap and hold the Dejavoo SPIn logo in the center of the screen for 2 to 3 seconds.
  1. When prompted, enter the 4-digit PIN provided by your manager.
  1. A modal will appear that says "Please select an access mode." Select Full Access and press OK.
  1. Tap the Bypass button in the top-right corner to enter Bypass mode.

Don't know the PIN? Contact your manager or PayBright support at +1 (984) 272-2568.

Step 2: Take the payment on the terminal

  1. Enter the amount to charge the customer on the terminal.
  1. Have the customer tap, insert, or swipe their card and complete the transaction as normal.
  1. Keep the terminal receipt. You will need the amount when you record the sale in the POS.

Step 3: Record the sale in the POS afterward

Because Bypass mode transactions are not sent to the POS, you need to enter them yourself so your inventory and reporting stay in sync.

  1. Once the POS is working again, ring up the same items in Material POS.
  1. For the payment method, choose Cash or a custom payment method (for example, one named "Terminal Bypass") instead of card. The card was already charged on the terminal, so do not run it again.
  1. Repeat for each transaction you took in Bypass mode.

Once the outage is resolved

  • Exit Bypass mode on the terminal and run a normal test transaction from the POS to confirm everything is working again.
