How can I accept credit card payments when the internet is down?

How to take offline card payments, understand the risks, and complete them when connectivity returns.

Overview

You can take card payments while the internet is down by completing an offline transaction on the P1 terminal and syncing it later. This only works on Dejavoo credit card terminals that have Offline Processing enabled.

Important notes

  • There is risk: the card can be declined when it is processed later.
  • 24-hour limit: offline transactions are only valid for 24 hours. If the internet is down longer than 24 hours, those transactions will be lost and will not be processed.

How to run an offline transaction

  1. On the POS, start the sale as normal, then do one of the following:
      • Choose Cash as the payment method, or
      • Add a custom payment method called Offline Payment, or
      • Park the sale.
  1. On the P1 terminal, tap ByPass, then manually enter the total amount and swipe the customer’s credit card. Complete the transaction on the terminal.
  1. Finish the sale on the POS.

When the internet comes back

  • The transaction will process on the terminal, and the sale will sync from the iPad.
  • If you parked the sale, return to the parked sale and complete it after the terminal transactions finish processing.
