Product Stock Report

Learn how to use the Product Stock Report to find products to reorder, identify slow-moving inventory, and determine which items may be ready for a markdown.

The Product Stock Report is where you go to turn your inventory decisions into action.

Once you've identified what is selling and where you need to make changes, use this report to find the products you should reorder and the products you may want to mark down.

What Can I Use the Product Stock Report For?

Use this report to:

  • Find products that need to be reordered.
  • Identify products that may be ready for a markdown.
  • See current inventory levels.
  • Review products by department, vendor, or other available filters.
  • Find products that have been sitting without selling.

Find Products to Reorder

Let's say your Inventory Value Report showed that you're underbought in Dresses, and your Sales Report showed that one particular vendor is performing especially well.

Now it's time to find the specific products you should reorder.

  1. Open the Product Stock Report.
  1. Filter to the Dresses department.
  1. Narrow your results to the vendor that is performing well.
  1. Look for the styles that are selling.
  1. Use that information to guide your next reorder.

The goal is to reorder products while they're still sellingβ€”not after you've run out.

Find Products to Mark Down

The Product Stock Report can also help you find inventory that isn't moving.

For example, if you're overbought in Candles:

  1. Filter the report to the Candles department.
  1. Sort your results to identify products that haven't sold recently.
  1. Before marking something down, confirm that the product still physically exists in your store.
  1. Mark down products that are taking up valuable space without selling.

Sometimes an item appears to be dead stock simply because it was misplaced or is sitting somewhere it shouldn't be.

Turn Dead Stock Into Cash Flow

A markdown isn't always enough.

If you've discounted an item and it still isn't moving, consider another strategy to get it off the sales floor.

For example, you could use a slow-moving candle as a free gift with purchase above a certain spending threshold.

The goal isn't always to get every last dollar out of an item. Sometimes freeing up cash and floor space is more valuable than holding onto inventory that isn't selling.

Your Buying Workflow

The Product Stock Report is the final step in a simple buying process:

1. Inventory Value

Find where you're overbought or underbought.

2. Sales

Find what's selling and which vendors deserve more of your budget.

3. Product Stock

Find the specific products to reorder and the inventory to mark down.

Used together, these three reports become a repeatable system for making smarter buying decisions.
