The Inventory Value Report helps you understand where your inventory dollars are sitting. You can view your inventory value at both cost and retail and group your inventory to see where you're investing the most money.
This report is especially useful when you're trying to answer a bigger buying question:
Am I overbought or underbought in a particular area of my business?
What Can I Use the Inventory Value Report For?
Use this report to:
- See which departments have the most inventory value.
- Compare inventory investment across vendors.
- See how much inventory you have at cost versus retail.
- Identify departments that may be overbought or underbought.
- Understand where your inventory dollars are tied up.
Group Your Inventory
The Inventory Value Report can be grouped by:
- Total
- Product
- Vendor
- Department
- Location
Grouping your inventory in different ways can help you see your business from different angles.
For example, grouping by Department can help you compare how much inventory you're carrying in Dresses, Candles, Shoes, or other areas of your business.
Grouping by Vendor can show you which vendors you're investing the most money with.

Cost vs. Retail Value
The report allows you to look at your inventory based on both cost and retail value.
Looking at cost tells you how much money you've invested in your current inventory.
Looking at retail tells you how much that inventory could generate if everything sold at its current retail price.

Use Inventory Value as Your Starting Point
Inventory Value is a great place to start when you're evaluating what to buy next.
For example, you may discover that you're carrying too much inventory in one department while another department is running lean.
Once you've identified that imbalance, move to the Sales Report to see which products and vendors are actually selling.
From there, use the Product Stock Report to determine what to reorder and what may need a markdown.
The Buying Workflow
Inventory Value → Sales → Product Stock
Start with where your money is sitting, use Sales to understand what's working, and use Product Stock to take action.
Next Step: See what's selling and which vendors deserve your next reorder in the Sales Report.
